Re: Same newbee, next step
I wouldn't do this via ElmerGUI but by hand-editing the SIF file. It happens that I just had a fun problem that I wanted to take a look at ("How long do you have to boil sausages in the soup in order to get them sufficiently hot?"). I simulated the temperature rise of the soup by setting ...

Same newbee, next step
Thanks to everyone who helped m over the last few days. My thermal simulations are working great now :D The next step is to change the boundary condition temperature over time for the simulation. My project is kind of a forensic analysis to determine what happened to a shipment of liquid material th...

Re: Newbee with simple problem I think
IT WAS THE SCALING!!!!!!! I searched this forum for scaling and got this discussion: http://www.elmerfem.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=589&p=2044&hilit=scaling+mesh#p2044 Adding Coordinate Scaling(3)=Real 0.001 0.001 0.001 seemed to solve the problem!!! :D I will do a more in depth simul...

Re: Newbee with simple problem I think
Yes - STEP is a matter of its own. We had this discussion just some days ago in another thread, and I had this effect myself about a year ago. Hope your current calculation is performing well! Nope the system crashed (I was doing other work instead of letting it sit on it's own) So, I've started ov...

Re: Newbee with simple problem I think
Hey, this really is a big container. The unit is meters! Good Guess huh? I've already re-modeled my container in meters, and made sure the STEP export was in Meters. HOWEVER..... the bounding box info when opening the (new) project it still x1000 I am using the GUI not the command line ...

Re: Newbee with simple problem I think
What are the standard mesh units? I'm assuming it's meters, looking at the output of opening my project, the bounding box is as follows: Bounding box: [ -590.713, -489.113, -489.113] x [ 590.713, 489.113, 489.113] Could that be my whole problem? My container is 38 inches wide X 46 in long X 38 in ta...

Re: Newbee with simple problem I think
petroo, Thank you for your suggestions, I will test them out today and comment back on the results. raback, I did test convection=calculated in several different attempts. Convection does produce velocity and pressure changes over time. But even in these simulations, with fluid moving around inside ...

Re: Newbee with simple problem I think
Hi Don, I have a large object ... Timestep intervals = 20 Timestep Sizes = 5 Those settings are somewhat contradictory: If you simulate a large object with heat dissipation generated by a driving force of only 30 K you certainly will need more than 100 sec to see any effect. Or did I miss something...

Newbee with simple problem I think
Hello Everyone, I've downloaded and installed Elmer, and am trying to figure out how to run a simple simulation. I have a large object at an ambient temperature of 299 Kelvin It is placed in a large room which is 327.6 Kelvin for an extended period of time. (eventually I will simulate this temperatu...
