Re: XFEM Method for crack propagation
Hi Jenwel I don't think the old thread is relevant. However, the idea is still good. This seems to recap some of the ideas nicely: https://ethz.ch/content/dam/ethz/special-interest/baug/ibk/structural-mechanics-dam/education/femII/XFEM.pdf Are your thoughts in line with the presentation or do you h...

Re: XFEM Method for crack propagation
In Code_Aster, there is XFEM method implmented for crack propagation. Do we have any plans to implement this in Elmer in future? Will it complicate to implement this one? Hi James, Recently, I am also considering to implement XFEM in Elmer. In this forum, I notice more than one researchers or engin...

Re: Application fields of Elmer
Hi Can anyone give some hits for improving the current version of Elmer for simulating solar cells? Nobody of the current Elmer team has background in solar cells but this is certainly a great application field. So it would be best if you could write down the system of equations you need to solve. ...

Re: Application fields of Elmer
Hi all! Would be interesting to have the Poisson solver for the electromagnetics package to be able employ non-linear densities which are dependant on the potential itself. That way it would be feasible to simulate semiconductor devices such as pn junctions, semiconductor detectors, solar panels pa...

Re: Can I simulate the movement of the iron dust in a static or dynamic magnetic field in the ELMER?
Hi You can certainly model magnetic fields in Elmer. An essential question for the iron dust is whether they act as tracer particles or also affect the magnetic field? Assuming that these are tracer particles you could try to couple the ParticleDynamics solver with the magnetic fields. Unfortunatel...

Can I simulate the movement of the iron dust in a static or dynamic magnetic field in the ELMER?
Hi, Dr. Raback, I wonder can I simulate the movement of the iron dust in a static or dynamic magnetic field in the ELMER? Which solver should I use? As we know the iron dust is much smaller, and the size is approximate 4-20 microns. In my case, the magnetic field is produced by a coil with direct cu...

Re: Calculation of the radial force of the rotor of a motor
Hi Jiahao, Thank you for your hints. Actually, all the scalers can be automatically saved, with or without the "Save Component Results". I do not know the detail reason. Currently, I am trying to combine the Elmer with MATLAB-Simulink. My Researchgate is as follows: https://www.researchgat...

Re: Can I open more than one ElmerSolver simultaneously in a PC?
Hi,
I have solved the problem now.
The reason is that the Elmer version with MPI can not be invoked by several MATLAB parallel threads. The MPI of MATLAB conflicts with the MPI of Elmer.
Hence, I re-install the Elmer version without MPI, it works.

Re: Can I open more than one ElmerSolver simultaneously in a PC?
Hi Peter, Thank you again for your response. I have opened the matlabpool as: matlabpool 3 and "parfor" for my loop. The ElmerSolver is invoked in my m file of MATLAB as: [status, results]= system(strcat('ElmerSolver case_',num2str(i),'.sif'),'-echo'); I can find that additional 3 threads ...
