Re: Reading values from file per timestep

Hi Peter,

Thank you very much again for your support. For now, the problems of this special use case are solved, but I,m working on other cases related to the heating of electric cables in air.

I will also share the model once it is up and running.

Re: Reading values from file per timestep

Dear Elmer community, After overcoming a few hurdles, I was able to get my model to work. Now I am sharing it in case it is of interest to someone else as well. The case is the calculation of the thermal heating of three parallel electric cables buried in soil and loaded with equal transient current...

Re: Reading values from file per timestep

Dear Peter, First of all thank you very much for your feedback. After some unsuccessful attempts with "MagnetoDynamics2D" I decided to use the "StatCurrentSolver" for my case. For this I first extended my model from a 2D to a 3D model. In a second step I made two comparative calc...

Re: Reading values from file per timestep

Dear Kenvinarden,

Thank you for proposal. I works but I'm wondering, how I can consider the temperature dependency of the joule loss in this case.

Reading values from file per timestep

Hello, I'm working on a transient heat transfer simulation with a variable body force (joule loss in cables), depending on variable temperature and on a time dependent electric current. For that purpose I declared a MATC function "heatsource" in the SIF-file. It receives the temperature as...

Re: How can I get natural convection to run?

Hi kevinarden, Thank you very much for your advices regarding initial temperatures and boundary conditions for navier-stokes (in this case no-slip). Now, the natural convection works fine. However, I'm still elaborating on the question of using radiation between the surfaces or not. If I calculate w...

How can I get natural convection to run?

Hi, I'm trying to calculate the warming of an eletric cable due to joule loss. This cable is laid in an air filled plastic pipe and, hence, heat transfer via conduction, radiation and natural convection must be considered. While the calculation of the heat trasfer via radiation and conduction seems ...

Re: Error during computing radiation factors for heat transfer

Dear Rich, dear kevinarden,

I followed the instruction from Rich and now the calculation works well.

Thanks a lot for your support.

Error during computing radiation factors for heat transfer

Hello, I'm making first attempts with heat transfer via radiation and started with a quite simple case comprising two plates. One acts as a source and one as a sink. Unfortunately, the calculation stops during computation of the radiation factors for heat transfer (see SolverLog.txt attached). Can s...
