Re: Problem with the Coulomb sliding law

Dear Matt, Ok, that is strange that you don't get the same results after the first steady iteration with the new version of the solver? Are the results still different if you go for more than one iterations? For the effective pressure, you will have to export the variable "Effective pressure&qu...

Re: Problem with the Coulomb sliding law

Dear Matt, I have modified the user function such that if the Cauchy normal stress is zero (which should be the case at a first iteration of a steady state problem or at the first time step of a transient one), then the normal stress is approximated by the isotropic pressure. If you do only one iter...

Re: GlaDS channels with an extruded mesh

Dear Samuel, Thanks for the report. The point would be to test the same case with a "true" 3d mesh to see if the problems are arising because of the internal extrusion or because of the 3d mesh not well accounted for in the GlaDS solvers. Would it be possible for you to make such test? Reg...

Re: Problem with the Coulomb sliding law

Dear Matt, The issue here is that stresses are unknown (and therefore set to zero) for the first time you enter the Stokes solver. This will be always the case for the first time step of a transient simulation or for the first iteration of a steady state simulation, as in your case. To solve this, y...

Error in the formula for internal extrusion

Hello, I think there is a small error in the formula to compute the space between nodes when using the internal extrusion with the keyword "Extruded Mesh Ratio". By definition in the documentation, Extruded Mesh Ratio is the ratio between the first and the last element and the element size...

Re: ctest failures

Dear Nathan, Only the two firsts of the 7 tests that failed are Elmer/Ice tests. The error might be that you need specific options to compile these two solvers. Have a look on the wiki: http://elmerice.elmerfem.org/wiki/doku.php?id=solvers:griddatareader (netcdf lib) http://elmerice.elmerfem.org/wik...

Re: problems when adding a sliding part

Hello, The first problem is that the path to the DEM file is not correct (the file DEM_TR_bed.dat is in the Data directory): Bottom Surface = Variable Coordinate 1 Real cubic include "./Data/DEM_TR_bed.dat" End The second problem is that you have changed the DEM description in the Grid2DIn...

StructuredMeshMapper and steady iteration

Dear all, I am running a transient simulation using steady state iterations over each timestep (Steady State Max Iterations = 8 in the Simulation section). The simulation couple Stokes equations and a free surface. It seems that the Mesh Velocity Variable and the Mesh Update Variable computed by the...

Re: Help for ExtrudeMesh

Hello, I would suggest, if you are starting a new modelisation, to move to the internal extrusion to create your 3d mesh from a 2d footprint. You can have a look at the Tete Rousse example from the last Elmer/Ice course done in Reykjavik last month (http://elmerice.elmerfem.org/wiki/doku.php?id=cour...

Re: Help to simulate Sheet/Shelf problems

You sould have a look in the example i have just added in the Elmer/Ice distribution, in [ELMER_TRUNK]/elmerice/Tests/GL_MISMIP.
