import files from solidworks

Post by emmy.t »

Hi all,

I created a simple 3d model using solidworks2019, and save as .igs, but couldn't open in elmer.

I also tried to export as .step or use gmesh to get .msh file, but same results.

Does anyone know how to import 3d files from solidworks?

I really appreciate if you help me.
thanks.

Used step file to make mesh in gmsh. Elmer would not read msh file
used help, current options, searched on mesh.format
clicked mesh.format=10 and change the the value to 2
save mesh, saves as a unv file (universal file)
ElmerGUI opened it no problem

Hi Kevin,

When I open this in ElmerGUI and click on the same BC I get this attached picture.

I now there are some complaints about 1D BCs but ElmerGUI cannot deal with them anaways...

Can you not "Open" the .msh file in ElmerGUI?

Peter,

Yes I can, for some reason I thought I could not. I tried again and it worked fine. Must have grabbed the wrong file earlier.

So you can open the step file in gmsh, mesh, do file save mesh, then open the msh file in ElmerGUI
