ElmerSolver puts out wrong/strange result

Post by PanikJeremy »

Hello everyone,

i have a problem with the computation of the field of a parallel plate condensator. In my geometry file the plates have a distance of 10. So when applying a potential of 10 to one of them and 0 to the other, one should obtain a value for the absolut electric field of 1 (or higher if u consider the field enhancement at the edges). My problem is, that elmer gets a highest field value of 0.32. I dont know why? Im using the StatSolver and the electrostatics section of ElmerGUI. I will attach my .step-file, which i created with Salome. ElmerGrid is the mesher i used for meshing. Maybe someone has a answer to that.

Hi PanikJeremy,
Could you attach the solver input file and your geometry exported by Salome in .unv format?

Hi Anil,

i have attached my .sif file, but i dont know how to export in .unv. In Salome there is no export file format such as .unv.

Hi PanikJeremy,
Salome can export .unv file.

Can you draw your geometry once in Salome and export it in the way described in the above link?

Hi,
I had a rectangular geometry of 50*5 and so i tested your case file by placing top at voltage of 10 and bottom at voltage of 0.

Hi Anil,

i attach my Slome Study. Maybe that will help you. I also dont understand, how you derived the Electric field you sent me. Sorry that i'm such a hard patient, but i dont use salome to mesh. I just imported the step-file directly into Elmer, so ElmerGrid did the meshing.

Hi PanikJeremy,
-I did not derive the electric field. i used your solver input file and made modifications to test on my geometry.
-If you cannot attach hdf files, you can make it a .rar or .zip file and try.
