Comparison Between FEM Softwares

Post by maguirre »

Hi everyone!

I'm using this software to simulate a thermoelectric transient system of a high-voltage isolator to make virtual testing of a temperature-rise test of this device. We would like to have our results with their uncertainties so we can compare them with experimental ones.

I've read that these simulations typically bring different types of error: physical, mathematical and computational. Related to the last one, and the reason for this post, Does anyone know some paper that compares Elmer with other (or others) FEM software like COMSOL or ANSYS? It doesn't have to be a paper, any kind of information would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Matias.

I do not know of a specific paper, but there are many such comparisons in this forum with other fea codes, physical problems, closed form solution, and NAFEMs validation cases.

Here is a collection of stokes cases based on openfoam test cases, there are references in each case

Hi

Also you could have a look at:

CoFEA project:
https://cofea.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

Some electomagnetic verifications (e.g. TEAM test cases):
https://github.com/ElmerCSC/elmer-elmag

This paper has some direct comparison with Comsol
https://www.researchgate.net/publicatio ... al_studies

Also the tests include some cases of Code Aster, you can find them with
>elmerfem/fem/tests grep -ir 'code_aster'

Many times the solvers have been verified 1st with anytical and then with some project specific cases and these have not all survided. The aim of the ~900 test cases is to keep things consistent even then.

Thank you, Peter! That paper is precisely what I was looking for. I'll check the others links too!
