Hi Everybody,
I need to simulate non-destructive testing of possible defects in solids. I need to simulate ultrasonic waves or X-rays propagation in a solid body.
Please let me know what ELMER model can serve this purpose.
Your help is very much appreciated.

Re: Acoustic waves propagation in a solid body
Hi,
These are very different wave lengths. Acoustic ultrasonic ~1.0e-2 m and X rays 1e-9 m. So you can indeed study some realistic specimen with acoustic waves but with x rays not. Even if you had a small enough specimen you should consider then the molecular stucture as well.

@raback, thank you very much for your clarification! and @kevinarden, am I right that you confirmed that ELMER can handle these problems?
Please let me know what ELMER model can be used for these analyses, especially ultrasonic waves propagation.

I agree with Peter that ultrasonic is doable. There are basic wave problems in the test cases

Void in the plate on the left side, right side no void.
