Yes, I am using the latest version from the following link: https://github.com/ElmerCSC/elmerfem

I tried compiling from source again but there still isn't a change in the energy functional values and it still says the compilation date as being in 2016!

Ok it works now! Apparently there was a previous version of Elmer installed and when calling ElmerSolver it would reference to this (old version) instead of the recent one I compiled.
