User's Heads Up on "exp" function in MATC

Post by Jimmy Johnson »

In the process of debugging a MATC function for thermal conductivity I used the Math Window of Elmerpost to do some checking.

User Input: 0.0002 -----------> MATC Command Window results: 0.0002
User Input: 2e-4 -----------> MATC Command Window results: 0.0002
User Input:1.0exp(-4) -----------> MATC Command Window results:0.0183156

This means that MATC evaluates "2e-4" as "2*10^(-4)" but evaluates "1exp(-4)" as "1*e^(-4)". Somehow I missed that in the documentation. Although such an interpretation is not incorrect it is bound to have lead to many incorrect analyses. I would be very surprised if many people knew about this.

The attached JPEG file shows the actual input/output sequence.//
