Error when trying to start solver

Post by femnewbie »

Hi folks,

my first steps using elmer ended up in an error at the very beginning.

I installed Elmer on Windows XP, then I started the GUI. Then I wanted to try out the example-file C:/Program Files/Elmer6.0/samples/ElmerGUI/grd/step.grd. It opens without an error. Here are the logged messages.

What´s wrong here? I guess it´s very simple and I maybe just forgot to install something...

Thanks for your help.

Well, did you define any equations and boundary conditions for the case, and thereafter saved the project. There are some tutorials among the documentation (www.csc.fi/elmer -> Documentation) which might be of use when learning the basic steps.

No, I didn´t :D . Just because I thought that the example-files are well defined and nothing is missing...

Greetings -- I'm having the same problem as posted by femnewbie. Apologies if I'm missing something obvious. Any guidance on what I can do to fix this? Thanks!

Hi Will,

You need to have in the same directory as your sif file one called "ELMERSOLVER_STARTINFO" (no extensions).
Inside it, you must have the name of your sif file.

Hope this helps

Thanks much! I tried this, and then found it's probably simplest to "save project" in elmer gui, which saves the appropriate files...
