Hello John,

Glad to see you are making some progress, you are able to run elmer and get some answers.

Have you tried running with just one body? Trying to make the top and bottom bodies not participate in the solution should be done by deleting them altogether. Using properties with 10^10 magnitude ratios will cause numerical issues for the solver.

Also, take a look at the tests under elmerfem/fem/tests named adv_diff1 and adv_diff2. They demonstrate transient diffusion solutions for 2D geometry, which should be a sensible starting point for simulating diffusion of a dopant into a substrate, if that is really what you are working with.

Hello Rich,

The test files you mention might be a good resource help since I am trying to simulate the diffusion case that you addressed. I have been searching elmerfem/fem/tests folder in the usr directory, however there is not any under that name, adv_diff1 or adv_diff2. I also searched in the Elmer Forum the keyword adv_diff1, however without success.

Given the above scenareo, what could be the way to find those tests?

Thank you and looking forward to an answer.

Hello John,

You can find the elmerfem test files on github. The GetStartedElmer.pdf has instructions on how to download the tests. Open that pdf and search for the phrase ' Elmerfem test files'. You may also find interesting the section ' Elmer and Gmsh', which is also in GetStartedElmer.pdf.

Be sure to download the latest version from http://www.nic.funet.fi/pub/sci/physics/elmer/doc/

The sif files of the tests need to be slightly modified, such as uncommenting the line for 'Post File = case.ep' and changing the file extension from .ep to .vtu, and extending the run times. As a courtesy, the two test cases with the slight modifications are attached.

Rich.
