Re: savescalars format

Hi Peter, Unfortunately as far as the electrostatics solver and savescalars is concerned your new build "elmerfem-mpi-nightly_Windows-AMD64.exe 28-Oct-2016 11:48" does not work insofar as it doesn't write out any values other than zero for the electric energy density, electric field or ele...

Re: savescalars format

Hi Peter, Just an obersrvation, (windows versions) Elmerfem_mpi 8.0-1e67e25 only exports zero values of electric energy, potential difference & capacitance where as elmerfem_mpi-7.0-8fe936f produces the correct output, so I have reverted to the old Elmer7. I notice that the windows nightly build...

Re: savescalars format

Hi Peter, Thanks for looking. I tried a minimal example and discovered that I couldn't reproduce the effect but discovered that my actual problem was cured if I put the following line in the solver section Potential Difference = 1.0 ! Absolutely needed if capacitance calc is required, has to be cons...

Hi Elmer team, On a parallel run with a partitioned mesh, if the data does not exist in that partition nothing is written out, now this makes things less straight forward when say trying to add up all the values in a given column as given in file.dat.names, is there a way to force each of the .dat.N...

Re: coupled heat and cfd

Hi Serge, Attached is my sif file. My thinking for the coupling is as follows: The fluid has constant properties so the N-S solver can iterate till it converges, then the heat solver can calculate the temperature field to convergence, the next coupled iteration should converge straight away as the f...

Re: coupled heat and cfd

My Problem is one I have solved in Comsol using MUMPS, I have exported the mesh from Comsol so I am doing the identical problem, Comsol solves without problem but I'm having problems in Elmer tuning the solver settings ;-( It would be good if the solver manual gave some better hints on how to adjust...

Re: coupled heat and cfd

Hi Rainer,
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give them a go when I'm in front of my workstation tomorrow and report back.
Regards
Mark

coupled heat and cfd

Hi All, I'm doing a coupled CFD+thermal simulation and I'm having some problems with convergence for which there really shouldn't be any problems? My fluids properties are not temperature dependent (big assumption) so irrespective of the temperature distribution in the fluid the density and viscosit...

using convergence plot

Hi Elmer community, I tend to run all my simulations from the command line, so I produce a mesh and partition it using elmergrid and place the partition directory in the same folder as the sif file and ELMER_STARTINFO file and then launch the application from the terminal/command line, if using wind...

making solvers adaptive

Hi Elmer team, I'm doing some coupled thermal-cfd simulations, and notice that for certain geometries/meshes I need to play with the Navier-Stokes solver settings to get the problem to converge, in particular with the iterative solver BiCgStabl I find that I need to change the 'Non Linear System Rel...
