Matrix assembly

Hi all elmer user,

I am quite new with the finite element coding in Elmer and was wondering whether assembly of matrices is done elementwise or nodewise? If i am not mistaken, assembly is done nodewise but I am not entirely sure. Hope to have the answer soon. Tq.

Hi,

The equations to be solved are for degrees of freedom, l. nodal values of temperature, velocity, etc.,
for the most usual elements, but other possibilities exist such as the p-elements, edge elements, etc.
where the coefficients of the basis functions (the DOFs) might not correspond directly to nodal values
at all. The equations are summed (assembled) from elemental contributions element by element
(for any type of basis functions),
