debian

Is it worth upgrading Ubuntu or moving to Debian? I have ubuntu 9.04. Would it be worth upgrading to 9.04 or just ditching this buggy OS and moving to less-buggy Debian.

Elmer works great on Ubuntu 10.04, such as in the CAELinux install, and there should be no problem compiling a new version on Ubuntu 10.04 or 10.10 either. I have not observed anything "buggy" about the newer Ubuntu systems. Remember that Ubuntu is based on Debian, but includes a lot of extra features and frills. If you don't need the extra stuff and just want a solid OS, maybe you'll like the latest Debian release. At the core, I really don't think it's any different from Ubuntu. But then, this really isn't a general Linux forum, and either OS should provide a good home for Elmer.

Best regards,

Tim D.
