Eddy Current Power Unit

Post by mr_monkey »

Hi,

Hopefully a straightforward question: What unit is the "Eddy current power" calculated by the MagnetoDynamicsCalcFields solver reported in in the log/scalars file? Is it W/kg? W/m^3?

Thanks

It is the result of integrating the energy density over volume and thus expressed in watts (W).

Great, thanks.

So for a 2-D simulation the value needs to be scaled by the axial length of the model, right?

For the axis-symmetric problem, it should calculate the total power considering the distance from the axis. You get the total power in W.

For planar 2D, 1m thickness is considered. In this case, the value you get is power density = watt per meter.

Makes sense, thanks a lot for clearing this up.
